Developing competence models

Requirements for a competence model:

 The competence model should….

  • illustrate the requirements critical to success for the concerned position (without overlap)
  • give the affected employees and leaders an orientation about the requested competences for the desired position
  • present a decisive basis for the selection and development of employees as well as for transparent promotion decisions
  •  allow further fine adjustment of diverse potential analysis and development tools (for example recruitment interviews, audits, development center, standardized staff interviews/appraisals…)  
  • include (trainable) behavioral aspects as well as general performance requirements (dispositions)
  • achieve a high acceptance by employees and leaders
  • meet scientific quality criteria
